CULTURAL DYNAMICS IN MISSIONS: RELATING TO THE NEW NORMAL THE CULTURAL ONION
The purpose of this booklet is to use the concept of “Cultural Onion” to help participants appreciate the cultural dynamics in Missions especially in this period of pandemic caused by Covid-19. The challenges mankind has faced since the beginning of 2020 with the outbreak of Corona Virus from Wuhan China, raise issues which affect how missions is carried out by the church. This is because Corona virus has affected the whole world’s culture – every aspect of the ways of living have been impacted.
Using the Cultural Onion Concept, we shall discuss how the pandemic relates to BEHAVIOR, AUTHORITY, EXPERIENCE and the CORE of CULTURE.
Let us take some onions and cut vertically and horizontally; one onion could be peeled with hands to attempt to get to the core. Participants are to be given the opportunity to share their experiences as they handle the onions.

The various layers represent various parts of culture. As one works with the onions, the eyes tears, the nose may run and sneeze and the nails may suffer some bruises and pains, demonstrating how difficult it is to work with cultures and more especially to try to get to the core and also to change or transform
